hold me...

Tonight, I was encouraged to write another blog post (Thanks Sheena!). I thought it would be several days before I would be able to sit down and think about what it is I wanted to write about, and then actually have the time to write it. Sure enough, on the short drive home, things just started coming and I knew that I couldn’t get away from this idea. So I told myself I wasn’t going to sleep until I wrote it. Anyway, on with my thoughts…

(First, a little background story…)
On my ride home, a fairly recent song release called “Hold Me” by Jamie Grace came on the radio. I downloaded the song for free on iTunes a few weeks back, and had been listening to it quite a bit. I have tried to let the lyrics “I love the way You hold me” sink with some meaning for my life. Tonight, they really started to. After this song, the radio station played one of my favorite songs “Hold Me Jesus.” Hearing this song right then and there was no coincidence. First, God had perfect timing as He triggered wonderful memories of certain people who have had an amazing impact on my life. And second, it tied into the previous theme of “hold me” that He instilled in my mind through Jamie Grace’s song.  After I had these couple little revelations, I thought certainly that could bring about my next blog topic. But, of course, God knew what was on my heart and had just a few more things for me to see. When I got home, I went to my computer to jot down some notes so that I would be able to write this post in a couple of days. I always like to have music playing when I’m messing around on the computer, so I decided to look up another song I had heard today, but was unfamiliar with. Of course, the title of this particular song is “Hold Me.” Coincidence? Well, I thought that was possible until I did my weekly check of the K-Love website for their free music download. The song they have available this week…“Hold Me Together.” Okay God, I hear ya, I’m writing now:).

When I think about the word “hold” I think about babies and young children who are held by their parents, especially for nurture and comfort. Then, I might think about how when we use certain everyday things, we oftentimes have to hold them in order to use them for their designed purpose. Easy enough, you can probably already see where I’m going with this in relation to the songs and faith. First, having God as our Father, it is natural that we need to be held by Him. And that is exactly what “Hold Me Jesus” explains. “Well sometimes my life just don’t make sense at all. When the mountains looks so big, and my faith just seems so small.” When our lives are confusing and things seem impossible, this is when we know, that as sons and daughters of God, we are being held by our Father. On the inside, I know I fight because “surrender don’t come natural to me.” So we fall to our knees crying “Hold me Jesus, ‘cause I’m shaking like a leaf.” With Jesus holding us tightly, we receive the nurturing and comforting love from our King of Glory and Prince of Peace.

The idea of holding things in order to use them for their designed purpose, explains the amazing plan God has outlined for each of us. If we call upon Him to hold us and lead us in the right direction, He will. In “Hold Me” by Jamie Grace she sings, “Oh, I love the way You hold me, by my side You’ll always be. You take each and every day, make it special in some way.” God holds us by His side and makes everyday special, according to His plan. He designed a plan and a purpose for all of us on this earth, and He will take our hand and hold us, we just have to follow Him.

So as you, like me, go about living this crazy thing called life, remember that although we might be too big to be physically held by our parents, God is always there to hold us, in all circumstances.
