the most love...

A couple weeks ago a friend of mine made a very short, but profound statement and I have been really thinking about it ever since. A mutual friend of ours was being tempted to given into her Lenten sacrifice, so she asked her, "Do you love Jesus?" to which she replied "Yes." she then said, "then love Him the most, not the least."

Love Him the most, not the least.

My friend had first heard it from a priest and she said it's one of those things that, once you hear, you can't put it in the back of your mind because you know how true it is. As Christians, I think it's one thing to say that you love the Lord, but it's a whole different thing when you say that you love Him with your whole heart, the most you could ever love Him. And obviously it's not simply defined by those directly spoken words, but by how we live our lives each day.

In instances of temptation and sin is when we struggle to love God the most. We may try to get by with the bear minimum, knowing that we still love Him and will be forgiven. However, at least for me personally, it puts a different perspective on things when I think about the fact that He became man, was sent to earth, and then died on the cross out of love for me--the most love He could ever have for me. How could I not want to love Him with my inmost being?

So my challenge for you (in which I'm including myself) as you continue your Lenten journey, is to love God the most in everything you do, not the least.
